K-2
Introducing students to the world of art is a true passion for me. As a child I remember the joy of discovering amazing works of art. I was fascinated by the images and loved discovering new worlds. It is a joy to share images from art history masters to contemporary trail blazers to the students. The questions and conversations that unfold are priceless and your child's image bank is getting filled weekly. I encourage you continue this by visiting art galleries, museums and other art experiences. We are still very limited with our supplies due to covid protocols so the art process may be simple but the learning is deep. |
3-5
Our first unit of study in this unit focuses on ceremonial art across the globe. As we visit each continent, students are introduced to multiple examples of art traditions within different regions. We discuss how the culture has used art as a way to honor and celebrate their unique history, beliefs, traditions, heritage and things that they value most. We see that art has very different meaning and significance for various cultures and often is misunderstood by other's. Students are then encouraged to take inspiration from the information gained to make a representation of their own while honoring the past. |
Below is what I want my students to feel in my art classroom.
Creative in how they approach a task.
Curious as they investigate art.
Capable as they apply their skills.
Comfortable to be themselves.
Courageous as they take risks.

In an "A" Lesson you ALIGN with me and I'll lead you an art journey to build your skills.
The destination or end result is planned. It may look difficult but I will show you how.

During a "B"Lessons, I challenge you to be brave and think for yourself.
I will offer an art provocation and you are free to decide how to navigate the process
and what the result will be. Your creativity and imagination muscles are exercised.

In a "C" lesson you will SEE some amazing artist's work and together we will
COMMUNICATE our thoughts and opinion about their art and our own.

During all of these ABC's of art lessons,
we will discuss THE CREATIVE PROCESS and refer to the habits that artist use.
We call these STUDIO HABITS OF MIND.
I'll encourage a growth mindset and developing an artist way of thinking.
Persistent, Independent, Curious, Flexible, Playful.
A+ in art is not about your ability to draw but your ability to think like an artist!
